Why Do Pupils Change Size
Pupils become larger or smaller to control how much light enters the eye. This adjustment happens automatically through muscles in the iris, the colored part of the eye, and helps the retina receive the right amount of light for clear vision. Although changes in brightness are the main trigger, the pupils also respond when the eyes focus on nearby objects and during normal nervous system activity.
Brightness changes how much light the eye needs
The pupil is the dark opening in the center of the eye. Its size determines how much light reaches the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
In bright surroundings, the pupil becomes smaller to limit the amount of incoming light. This can improve visual sharpness and help prevent discomfort caused by bright light, which is closely related to light sensitivity.
